The antique map titled ‘Insvlae Qvaedam Minores ex aebudis’ was created in 1665. Translated to English, the title means ‘Some Smaller Islands from the Hebrides’. In the early 17th Century, the United Kingdom was a collection of smaller kingdoms and territories, with England and Scotland being the two dominant powers. The map depicts a number of smaller islands located in the Hebrides, with Rum, Eigg, and Canna being located centrally. At this time, these islands would have been sparsely populated and largely untouched by modern development. The map provides a fascinating insight into the geography and topography of the area during this time period.
