The antique map titled ‘Staffordiensis Comitatvs’ was created in 1665 and depicts the county of Stafford in central England. The title translates to ‘County of Stafford’ in English. The United Kingdom in the early 17th century was a time of political and social change, with the Stuart monarchs ruling over a country that was still recovering from the religious conflicts of the previous century. The population was growing rapidly, and many new towns and cities were being established. The economy was based largely on agriculture, with wool and other textiles being major exports. The map shows the county of Stafford, with its central location making it an important transport and trade hub. Other nearby towns and villages are also depicted, as well as rivers and other geographical features.
