Isle of Wight

Isle of Wight | Newport, Blackwater, Carisbrooke, Gatcombe

The antique map titled ‘Vectis Insvla’, created in 1665, depicts the Isle of Wight, located off the southern coast of England. The title translates to ‘Island of Wight’ in Latin. In the early 17th century, the United Kingdom was a collection of different kingdoms, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The country was ruled by King James I, who was known for his support of the arts and literature. The economy was largely agrarian, with many people working in agriculture or related industries. The country was also experiencing a period of exploration and expansion, with colonies established in North America and the Caribbean. The map itself would likely show important features of the Isle of Wight, such as its coastline, rivers, and towns like Newport, Blackwater, and Carisbrooke.

Please note: for optimal quality and to ensure that all details are legible, I recommend selecting a size no smaller than 45x60cm / 18x24 inches. Smaller sizes will not capture the detail as presented in the previews below.
