This antique map, created in 1665 and titled ‘Sicilia Regnvm’ (Kingdom of Sicily), depicts Italy in the early 17th century. Italy at this time was a collection of independent states, each with their own rulers and customs. The map shows the central region of Italy, including the areas of Bronte, Randazzo, and Sfaranda. The landscape would have been dominated by small towns and villages, surrounded by fields and vineyards. Travel would have been difficult, with few proper roads and many areas of rugged terrain. The map provides a fascinating insight into the geography of this historic region, and the cultural and political landscape of Italy during this period.
