This antique map, created in 1665, is titled ‘Territorio Padovano’, which translates to ‘Paduan Territory’. Italy in the early 17th Century was a collection of independent states and territories, with the Papal States, the Kingdom of Naples, the Duchy of Milan, and the Republic of Venice being some of the most powerful. The period was marked by political instability, religious conflict and artistic and cultural flourishing. The map may show roads, rivers, and towns, giving a glimpse into the geography and infrastructure of the Paduan Territory in the 17th century.
