Italy in the early 17th century was a collection of city-states and territories, with Venice and the Papal States being the largest and most powerful. The region depicted on the map was part of the Venetian Republic, which controlled much of northeastern Italy. The area was known for its agriculture and manufacturing, with a thriving textile industry in particular. The map provides a glimpse into the landscape and topography of the region, as well as the network of roads and waterways that connected the various towns and cities.
