This antique map, created in 1665, is titled ‘Tractvs Borysthenis Vulgo Dniepr et Niepr dicti, a civitate Czÿrkassi ad ostia…’ which translates to ‘The Dnieper and Nieper Rivers, from the city of Cherkasy to the estuary’.

In the early 17th century, Ukraine was a diverse region with a mix of different cultures and languages. It was ruled by different powers, including the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Ottoman Empire, and the Crimean Khanate. The map shows the Dnieper and Nieper Rivers, which were important trade routes for the region, as well as the surrounding areas, including Moldova. The cities of Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Voskresenske are located centrally on the map.
