The antique map titled ‘Secvnda Pars Brabantiae’ was created in 1665 and depicts a region in Belgium. The title translates to ‘Second part of Brabant’ which was a historical region located in the southern Netherlands and northern Belgium. In the early 17th century, Belgium was under the control of the Spanish Netherlands and was a prosperous region with a thriving trading economy. The region was known for its textile industry and its cities, such as Bruxelles – Brussel, Saint-Gilles – Sint-Gillis, and Etterbeek, were centres of commerce and culture. The map provides a glimpse into the geography and topography of the region during this time period.
