The antique map ‘Glocestria Dvcatvs, Vulgo Glocestershire’ was created in 1665 and depicts the county of Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom. The title translates to ‘Duchy of Gloucester, commonly known as Gloucestershire’. In the early 17th century, the United Kingdom was a collection of kingdoms and territories under the rule of James I. The country was undergoing significant changes, including the colonization of North America and the beginning of the scientific revolution. This map would have been a valuable tool for travelers and merchants, providing information on important roads, landmarks and natural features of the region. Gloucester, Stonehouse, and Stroud are located centrally on the map, but the overall focus is on the entire county.
