The map shows the region of Nottinghamshire, located centrally within the United Kingdom in the early 17th century. During this time, the country was ruled by the Stuart dynasty, with King James I and King Charles I on the throne. The period was marked by political and religious tensions, with the English Civil War taking place between 1642 and 1651. The population of the country was growing, with London becoming a major centre of commerce and industry. Nottinghamshire was known for its agriculture, with farming and wool production being the main sources of income for the local people. The map may show features such as rivers, forests, and settlements, including the towns of Southwell, Ollerton, and Nottingham, which would have been the major population centres of the county at the time.
