This antique map, created in 1665 and titled ‘Dioecesis Trvndhemiensis Pars Avstralis’, depicts a region in the southern part of Norway, with Kristiansund, Trondheim, and Molde located centrally. In the early 17th century, Norway was a sparsely populated country with a rugged terrain dominated by mountains, glaciers, and fjords. Fishing and agriculture were the main sources of livelihood for the people. The country was ruled by the Danish-Norwegian king, and the region depicted on the map was under the Diocese of Trondheim, which played an important role in the spread of Christianity in northern Europe. The map provides a glimpse into the geography and topography of the region, as well as the political and religious structures of the time.
