This antique map, titled ‘Stato Del Piemonte’ and created in 1665, depicts the region of Piedmont in Italy. The title translates to ‘State of Piedmont’ and the region is located in the north-western part of Italy. During the early 17th Century, Italy was divided into several independent states, with the most powerful being the Republic of Venice, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and the Kingdom of Naples. Piedmont was under the rule of the House of Savoy, who would later become the Kings of Italy. The region was bordered by France to the west, and the Alps to the north. The map may show the city of Torino, which was the capital of Piedmont, as well as other central locations such as Grugliasco and Carmagnola.
