The antique map titled ‘Lvsatia Svperior’, created in 1665, shows the region of Upper Lusatia in what is now modern-day Germany. In the early 17th century, Germany was a collection of small independent states, each with its own ruler and government. The Holy Roman Empire, of which many of these states were a part, was in decline, and the smaller states were often at odds with one another. Upper Lusatia was located in the eastern part of Germany, bordering Poland and Czechia. The region was known for its natural beauty and was home to several important trade routes, as well as numerous castles and fortresses. On the map, you can see the central locations of Bautzen – Budyšin, Löbau, and Weißenberg – Wóspork, as well as the borders with Poland and Czechia.
