This antique map titled ‘Osnabrvgensis Episcopatvs’, created in 1665, depicts the Bishopric of Osnabrück in Germany during the early 17th century. The title translates to ‘Bishopric of Osnabrück’. During this time, Germany was divided into numerous small states and territories, each with their own rulers and laws. The Holy Roman Empire was still in existence and the Thirty Years’ War, which devastated much of Germany, had only recently come to an end. The map shows the central region of Germany where Osnabrück, Lotte, and Bramsche are located, providing insight into the political and geographical landscape of the time.
