The title translates to ‘Duchy of Luxembourg’ and shows the central location of Trier, Diekirch and Luxembourg. Bordering countries, France, Belgium and Germany, are also featured on the map. In the early 17th century, Luxembourg was a small, landlocked country with a predominantly agricultural economy. It was ruled by the House of Habsburg and was frequently fought over by neighbouring powers due to its strategic location. The map provides a fascinating insight into the geography and political landscape of the region during this period.
