Brabantia Dvcatvs translates to ‘Duchy of Brabant’ in English. The map shows the central location of Beringen, Lommel and Leopoldsburg, as well as the borders with neighbouring countries, the Netherlands and France. During this time period, Belgium was under Spanish control and was known as the Spanish Netherlands. The region of Brabant was one of the most prosperous areas in Europe, with a strong economy driven by trade and agriculture. The map provides a fascinating glimpse into the geography and political boundaries of the region during this time period.
