This antique map created in 1665 is titled ‘Carte Dv Pays Vexin François’, which translates to ‘Map of the French Vexin Country’. France in the early 17th century was a country ruled by the Bourbon monarchy, with Louis XIII as king. The country was divided into provinces and regions, each with their own distinct culture and traditions. The economy was primarily agricultural, with wine, wheat and dairy being major products. The country was also home to numerous cities and towns, each with their own unique architecture and history. This map shows the region of Vexin in detail, including the central towns of Cergy, Vauréal, and Jouy-le-Moutier. It provides a fascinating glimpse into the geography and topography of the area in the 17th century.
